Investment and Consulting Services Fee Structure

I am dedicated to providing excellence through a fee based financial planning process that is as unique as each of my clients. By offering investments and consulting options, you can choose what works best for you in the financial planning process.
I am compensated for the services  I provide by one or more of the following three methods:

Hourly Consulting Fees and Flat Fees for Segmented Plans:

My consulting services may be most appropriate for clients who value the financial planning process and want a professional   to provide the blueprint. An hourly fee is charged for financial, investment, estate or retirement planning.   This fee is $75 per hour and will be discussed more detail during your initial consultation along with an estimate of time for completion. For someone with limited planning needs I can consult on a project specific basis as well (example: investment, risk management, estate or tax plan only). These plans start from $250 per plan depending on the complexity.

Investment Services (Negotiated):

I can select and oversee the investment management of your portfolio on an ongoing basis.  All fees are disclosed in a completely transparent manner. In some cases Mutual Funds* and Mutual Fund ETF products are available that offer flexible advisor compensation which can be negotiated to lower fund costs.

Commission Based Fees:

I may be compensated by a commission or sales charge when utilizing certain investments and insurance products. These products include, but are not limited to: mutual funds, annuities, long term care, life and disability, critical illness, long-term care insurance etc. This may be more suitable for clients that wish to start saving for their futures but have only small sums to invest. The cost of a full financial plan might prove too costly initially, with commission based plans I am not paid directly by the client for planning services but instead compensated by the firms with which financial products are placed and not the client. I have a policy of complete transparency in disclosing all commissions generated in this manner with my clients prior to proceeding.

I invite you to discuss these options with me in greater detail to determine what is most appropriate for you.

Fee Based Investment Plans:

a) ETF (as offered by MFDA member firms)/Index Fund Only Plans
b) Mutual Fund Based Plans
c) Mixture (Core & Explore)

Retirement Income Plans:
Those approaching retirement need to be sure that they will have sustainable income, enough to last through their entire retirement. Moshe Milevsky and Alexandra Macqueen have written about the concept of how to"Pensionize Your Nest Egg" using Product Allocation , a new approach to retirement income planning. With Product Allocation I:

1.Measure your current plan’s chance of success, assigning it a Retirement Sustainability Quotient  (RSQ) from zero per cent, or no chance of success, to 100 per cent, that can provide sustainable income for life (link is to Google Books chapter of Pensionize Your Nest Egg showing how to make RSQ calculation).

2.Improve your RSQ by allocating your savings amongst a basket of products with unique guarantees and features that help protect you from risk and meet the preferences important to you

Improving your RSQ with Product Allocation can maximize your retirement income and help ensure it will last. More about Product Allocation here.

All investments and investment advice will be limited to financial instruments that I am licensed to sell such as mutual funds (including index/ETFs sold through mutual fund dealers), GICs and Savings Accounts (does not include individual stocks or bonds, ETFs traded solely on stock markets, private placements).

Commissions, trailing commissions management fees and expenses may all be associated with mutual fund investments. Please read the prospectus before investing. Mutual funds are not guaranteed, their values change frequently and past performance may not be repeated..

Testimonials

The unsolicited testimonials we receive from my clients highlight the level of attention and integrity I offer every client. My commitment to providing you with high quality service and advice is my driving force. Here's what my client's have to say:

"I have complete confidence in Tom and trust him to invest our savings as he invests his own. I often refer Tom to others, my adult children are also his clients."

Linda Rice, Scotiabank Retail Lending

"Tom put together an excellent plan that ensured my Dofasco Pension Fund money (Fund & Fund 2,Deferred and SRIP)  would provide the income I needed until my CPP and OAS payments kick in. Not only that, the returns were much higher than Tom used in the estimates, giving me higher payments for a longer time. I would recommend that any Dofasco employees about to retire talk to Tom about how to safely invest their retirement package."

Gord Robertson, Retired, Arcelormittal (Dofasco)

"I'm probably like most people and have very little practical investment knowledge. However, I do recognize the need to find a good, honest person with whom to trust my money, and for me, that person is Tom Venner. I have known and dealt with Tom for many years have every confidence in his knowledge and judgment. I always know that no question is too small or unimportant for me to ask and Tom always has time to answer. Not every financial advisor feels that way - believe me, I know from experience."

Karen Reynolds, Hamilton Youth Employment Services (retired)

"Tom is very knowledgeable and always takes the time to explain my investments and how they fit our goals. By doing my taxes he's shown us a number of ways to save on the amount of taxes we pay."

Mike and Kathy Sherwood, Arcelor Mittal Dofasco & Zellers

"Tom Venner is an absolute pleasure to work with. Being that I am self employed, its very important to hire someone that I can trust with my finances. Tom has nothing but the clients best interests in mind. His methods are clear and concise. I especially love the fact that when I walk away from a meeting with Tom I feel as though I've learned something."

Steve Ferrell, Yoga Instructor and Personal Trainer

"I've known Tom for some time and he is a very friendly and personable fellow. I have recently hired him as a Financial Advisor and I would recommend Tom to anyone in need of the same service. He is knowledgeable and conscientious."

Eman Ali, Thrombosis and Homeostasis

"My partner and I sat down with Tom one afternoon, needing advice and guidance on our financial future. He immediately had many valuable recommendations and explained to us how to implement them. He was very easy to talk to and he eliminated all our worries by giving us a plan."
